Insert Asset Tag via command line
Hi,
Is there a way to insert an Asset Tag to Dell blades using a command line if the DRAC IP/logon is known?
Thx,
John Bradshaw

Yes. Use 'ASSET new_asset_tag'.
An alternative would be to install CCTK on all the DELL computers in your inventory. This will enable you update the ASSET tag from within the OS (which removes the need to reboot the box and boot to the DELL Diag which comes with Asset.exe or PXE boot a FDD image containing Asset.exe).

John,
There is a tool we have that you can boot to .
You can find it here -
ftp://ftp.dell.com/utility/asseta00.exe
The flags for the Asset Utility are:
ASSET new_asset_tag Specify new asset tag
ASSET /d Delete asset tag
ASSET /o new_owner_tag Specify new owner tag (if applicable)
ASSET /o /d Delete owner tag (if applicable)
ASSET /? Help screen
You must run the utility in a Windows environment.
Let me know how it goes.

Hi Chris,
When I run it, it goes in to a screen asking to Insert a Floppy Disk (see below).
How can I get around that?
Thx
John
Diskette 1 - Put a formatted, blank diskette into drive A: and press Enter.
This version of C:\Users\AppData\Local\Temp\2\WZS10D2.tmp\DEASSET1.EXE
is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your compute
r's system information to see whether you need a x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) ve
rsion of the program, and then contact the software publisher.
** Error - See the line above for a description of the problem. **
** Redoing diskette 1. **
Diskette 1 - Put a formatted, blank diskette into drive A: and press Enter.

You can also use 32 BIt Diags to create a USB. Asset is embedded in that as well. Boot to the menu and select 4 to exit.
At the command prompt, change directory to C:. The working directory should now be Diag C:\>. At the prompt change the directory to the "UTIL" folder. The working directory should now be Diag C:\UTIL>. This is the directory that contains asset.com. You can use the same flags as before.

I did the same but used a USB plugin, first formatted with a system and Asset copied to C:/

Ahh thx.
That actually enters the Service Tag, if I am not mistaken (at least that is what the Dell techs use if they need to change a Motherboard and so on).
Sorry for not making my question clearer.
We have stickers on each piece of equipment that relates back to Asset Mgmt (purchasing). It is the information on these stickers that needs to be entered, not the Service Tag that comes from Dell. Is ther a way to do this
