iDRAC 8 Email Alerting

Greetings! This is my first post here so i am hoping for success! I have read a ton of posts and replies regarding issues with iDRAC 8 sending email alerts - but none seem to be specific to our issue.  We have successfully configured the common/DNS settings, destination email address, SMTP settings and we can send and receive test emails.

But the system will not actually send any emails for the alerts configured? We verified that all the alerts we want are individually checked for email -- and we can see the events we want in the 'Recent Logged Events' --> example, we have 'System Health' -- 'Physical Disk' -- 'Informational/ Warning / Critical' checked for email alerts ---- and we can see a 'Critical Fault' on Physical Disk in the Logged events = but no email alert?  This feels like something simple is missing.  We updated everything associated with the iDRAC itself and still nothing. But the test emails all work.

Anyone had a similar issue?

Thanks!

Hello thanks for choosing Dell and welcome to our community.

I wonder if it's related to this.

"iDRAC8 and iDRAC7"

I think that was the link we originally used to set them up - everything is configured accordingly and works with the test email alert - it just does not appear to send alerts for actual events.

I tested with power supplies - made sure all the System Health -- Power related events are configured for email -- and pulled out a power cable, then completely removed a power supply. The events show up in the log - but no email is sent.

BaconPancakesTL,

There are only a few possibilities.

1) Event filters are not configured for the alert types. Which you stated they were

2) Email address is configured in the iDRAC, but there is a State checkbox next to it that needs to be checked, this is so it will be used with email alerts

3) Network issues

Now everything else sounds like it is working, so I would probably start with confirming if that checkbox is marked, as stated in #2.

Let me know if this helps.

All Event filters for specified events are checked.

State box is checked for the email we use for alerting.

Ran packet captures on the server/ iDRAC - the firewall - and the receiving the SMTP server - Test Events - Power Supply and Physical Disk - alerts not leaving the iDRAC/server.

Ran the same captures on the test email alert and we can see the entire chain.

*Tried to throw in some attachment pics but the uploader fails.

**I am curious if SNMP traps display the same issue - if we get the same problem then we will most likely put this to bed and seek some other type of issue - we would just prefer the information come from the server itself.

It should be working, based on what you are stating. So what you may want to do is call into support and let them work directly with you to verify the configuration.
