How can I get an R420 idrac7 license for remote console acess?

Hello,

I have an R420 whose iDrac7 looks empty. Like this:

I've read many posts of people explaining R420 were shipped without the necessary license to enable remote console. All those posts explain that my quest for the license should start at "Dell Digital Locker" [1]

1) I do have a TAG for the server, and it is registered in my account. However,  "Dell Digital Locker" is asking for a "Product register code", and not taking the support tag.

Text at the site offers no clue on how to get the register code, and to be fair, I would expect it to work with the TAG.

2) Most of the posts at this site say I should be able to find a way to buy the license, which I would totally do if I could.

3) RACADM is also saying I am lacking a licence.

$ /opt/dell/srvadmin/bin/idracadm7 -r 1.2.3.4 -u root -p xxxxxx getsysinfo
Security Alert: Certificate is invalid - self signed certificate
Continuing execution. Use -S option for racadm to stop execution on certificate-related errors.
ERROR: SWC0242 : A required license is missing or expired.
Obtain an appropriate license and try again, or contact your service
provider for additional details.
Required License -- RACADM

Questions:

- Do I need express or enterprise for a basic feature as text console at idrac?

- Is it still possible to buy a license? How can I do that?

Hello,

An iDRAC license is required for command line response, but there were different levels of license. If you want to send me the tag in a private message I can look at it and see if there are any missing licenses you should have. Alternatively, you can contact Sales. These licenses are software generated, so I would expect that they could sell you one.

Does that answer your questions, or was there anything else I could help clear up?

Hi guys we recently bought 2 used servers from another company..

Dell R420... so first things first.. we did an update on bios, idrac, lifecycle controller etc.. SAS drivers upgrade..

we then tried to connect idrac to our switch..but no lights on idrac showing up at all neither on the switch no light comes up on the cable connected directly to idrac port..

wen into lifecycle controoler and on idrac settings i can see its enabled..

we did a dhcp test discovery, and even without cable connected it displays state UP ip 192.168.0.120 ... but i cannot log remote, i cannot connect to the gui nothing happens..

when i scroll down on system diagnoses from idrac i can see the message saying License expired error code SWC0242  i browsed online and it seems it needs a license for idrac? how can i get this license?

does the missing license blocks completley the idrac from even getting and IP or even connecting on the switch and ping on it?  because its not working att all..  this is happening on both servers.

Hello thanks for choosing Dell.
First of all, what you need to do is to go back to the seller and double check if the servers actually had a license. Have you already completed the ownership transfer as well?

@DELL-Young E

Hi its a second hand servers shop down in south america, they accquired it from replacement in datacenters company.. they don´t even know if it ever had a license on it.  if i send u the service tag and Idrac mac address on PM could you check it on the system.. via the service tag on the dell site it doesnt show anything besides the manufacturing date and the warranty expired date... the other thing is i cannot access IP 192.168.0.120 even after resetting it.. it simply does not blink any lights on the idrac card neither on the switch..  so i can enter the webgui to check if the license is valid... i also tried running a USB img with the local temp license for idrac yesterday, the iso boots up and it displays the menu.. after trying to install couple of minutes later is errors out i will try to run the process again today and write down the information

PortalNET2,

Youc can send us the svc tag via private message  and we can look into it, but we would need you to verify ownership before we can release any information to you. So when you send the svc tag, please include the company name or customer number. If you don't have those details then you will need to change of ownership, as Youngah stated.
