Help PST0254-General failure after video.

Hello everyone

I have a problem with my server PowerEdge T620, this message appear on Front panel LCD "General failure after video", My monitor doesn't show the screen, for this reason I cannot see the POST errors.

The leds of my HDDs are ok, I don't have the password of iDRAC.

My troubleshoot was:

remove and put RAM memory

remove and put PERC

remove and put cables of power

Please any suggestions for this problem? I need to enter the servers, I have Esxi vmware installed

Thanks

Hi WilliamsMex,

in order to see what's going on we need at least one option to see something on the system. So video or iDRAC access is needed.

But first things first, this is what PST0254 means.

Message:
General failure after video.
Detailed Description:
System BIOS detected a functional or configuration issue during system POST.
Check the system video screen for more information. The system event log may
contain additional details. This exception occurred early in system power on, thus
the system may not display video. (BIOS POST Exception code FE).
Action:
Check system video and review event log for additional information.

Somehow we need to get access to the systems log files to see what happened.

You mentioned that your monitor does not show the video ... does this mean there is generally no video, even after the restart of the server?

We need also video if we try to reset the iDRACs password - so video out is essential right now.

To get there, please try a minimum-to-POST configuration.

Simply remove all unnecessary parts and just keep the following installed.

- System Board
- CPU1 with heat sink (minimum for troubleshooting)
- Single DIMM configuration with DIMM in socket A1
- Control Panel with cable (to power system on)
- PSU (and for redundant PSU also the PDB/PIB)

Let me know if you can get the system to show up on the screen.

Best regards
Stefan

Hi Stefan

I did the tasks but the video didn't show me on the display.

The message in control panel is "Power input for the power supply 1 is lost ", I connected the cable of power only in PSU 2 then with both but the same message"

I have one monitor with DVI, the input of server is VGA, my DVI to VGA converter didn't work either, I'm going to probe with monitor VGA input.

Now I reconnected the cables and the message is "Storage BP1 Signal cable is not connected. or is improperly connected."

only the System identification button flashes orange and the funs are off.

Please clarify this question for me in the image the inputs are the same? the number 28 and 31? because the backplane of storage connect the signal cable initially  were in 28, 3 months ago I only reconnect and the Hard drives  works, now I did the same but does't work, Change to 31 and works again but the message was General failure after video.

Now I again connected it 28 and doesn't work.

Hi @DELL-Stefan R  and Everyone

I buy a monitor and the first message on it was "Configuring Memory...", that's how the screen was frozen, I had that change the memory en slot A1, then the system did a reconfiguration, it reset and the screen stayed in the following image

Hi,

The error seems to be directing to PCIe devices, could you check if there is any device installed on the PCIe and remove it. Then check if the server is able to pass POST.

I would suggest to try again the method suggested by Stefan, removing all components except the listed ones, these components are for minimum to POST. If the system has no errors, install the components 1 by 1. I suggest you install the memory and CPU after you have verified the minimum to POST components able to work.

@DELL-Joey C @DELL-Stefan R

I removed the PCIe card, it was a Ethernet card, the system did a reconfiguration for the changes then the system up.
Until now I don't have problems, thanks you
