Support for OptiPlex 9020M NVMe

Hello! The bios of my Dell OptiPlex 9020M does not detect my WD Blue SN570 NVMe SSD that is plugged into the m2 slot (nor does windows 10 detect nvme ). Bios is running in Uefi mode. Please help me upgrade my bios, install drivers and controllers.

If you must update your system BIOS, you can download the latest BIOS firmware from here https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=xw37h&oscode=wt64a&productcode=optiplex-9020m-desktop

Scroll down to Additional details and expand installation instruction.  Take proper precaution while flashing BIOS firmware.  As for controllers' driver, Windows 10 will install it automatically.  You can check under storage controllers in Device Manager.

You may want to set SATA operation to AHCI and verify the SSD is seating in the M.2 slot properly.

Hello Chino de Oro! The bios version on the A19 mini PC, but does this version have a driver to support NVMe disks? I know it doesn't, and the bios is implementing this support driver.I configured SATA to AHCI, but the BIOS does not detect my WD Blue SN570 NVMe SSD.

As you could see from screenshot below, that was the latest BIOS offered from Dell.  A proper storage controller driver would be installed by Windows, depending on your settings of AHCI or RAID.

If BIOS and Windows couldn't detect your SSD, either it's a bad unit or you probably installed it incorrectly.

Chino de Oro friend thank you! Yes, I know that A-19 is the latest BIOS version ... I configured SATA to AHCI, or do I need RAID? On another computer, my WD Blue SN570 NVMe is detected by both BIOS and Windows!
Installed it on my Dell neatly, in the m2 slot...

I see, you installed your SSD in the wrong slot.  In other words, you are using wrong type of SSD for your computer M.2 slot.  Suggested solutions:

If you want to use NVMe drive, it needs to be installed to a PCIe slot, which seems to be limited on your micro system.

If you want to use M.2 slot, your SSD must be SATA type with B key

The PCIe slot is missing from my microsystem.Nvme installed in the m2 slot.Screenshot_1.png

As I mentioned earlier, the M.2 slot on your 9020M would work with SATA SSD.  I suggest that you exchange or obtain an M.2 drive with B and M key if you like to make use of the M.2 slot.

On the larger models of Optiplex XX20, the PCIe slots can be used with an M.2 adapter for NVMe storage only.  To make NVMe system boot drive, one must mod the BIOS or using .EFI assisted method such as REFIND, CLOVER.

Thanks so much Chino de Oro! I realized my mistake! I understand the difference between sata and nvme..., now I have a problem with the bios version A-19, in which I sewed the nvme support driver, please tell me how to restore the bios? On the forum, I read that I need all the critical bios updates that were previously ... perhaps I need a bios dump?

You may get better information from Paulie's blog or win-raid.

Got your DM, I heard that your M.2 SATA is not recognized neither.  Have to try to flash your BIOS with the latest version linked.  Very highly that you modded the BIOS and wrote over the controller driver codes with NVMe driver.  Hope you can fix it with just a simple flash, else, ask Lost_N_BIOS or Fernando (at win-raid) for help.
