Pls help with error code : Primary Surface - D0809

Latitude 7280

Latitude 7280

Dear reader,

I run a stresstest on my Dell Optiplex 7070 small form factor desktop with integrated gpu and got the next errorcode for my videocard:  "Primary Surface - D0809"

Can anybody tell me what this is?

I contacted Dell usa, Dell Netherlands, searched online but nobody seems to know what this means. I find it very strange that Dell technical helpdesk cannot find anything about this error code in their documents.

My deskmargin: 0;">Dell optiplex 7070 small form factor

i7-9700, 16Gb, UHD Graphics 630

Thank you in advance

The Primary Surface Test verifies the currently displayed portion of video memory (also known as the frame buffer) is free of defects.

A "D0809 video memory defect" typically refers to a specific error code indicating a problem with the video memory (VRAM) on a graphics card, often signifying a faulty memory chip or connection within the GPU, potentially causing visual glitches, artifacts, crashes, or even a complete lack of display.

  • This code indicates a failure to properly access or write data to the video memory due to a hardware issue.
  • Potential causes:
    • Faulty memory chip: One or more of the VRAM chips on the graphics card could be physically damaged, leading to corrupted data.
    • Overheating: Excessive heat can stress the VRAM, causing instability and errors.

probably good idea not to stress the cpu in this case especially in a SFF which has a weaker cooler

@redxps630 Thank you for your reply. Maybe the stresstest itself caused the overheating. Is there a way to replace the internal GPU? Or should I just disable the internal gpu and use a external gpu?

when you are using a dGPU and not using Intel multi display then the integrated gpu is not outputing video.

you can not replace the integrated gpu without replacing the cpu

@redxps630 Thx for all your effort. I am going to run the stresstest again. If the error reoccurs then I'll get a basic PCI Video Card.
