Optiplex 7010 SFF front i/o mounting
Hi, just a minor detail thing:
I'm rebuilding with a 7010 mobo in a SFF case from a different model. I have the fans, don't mind running an ATX PSU outside for now (it's a 3020 case with the weird 8 pin connector on the psu) but I'm just wondering about the front panel USB/audio i/o. I was able to find it on eBay for $6 so no messing with the audio connector but I I'm just wondering:
1. Does it mount on the metal chasis? The front panel bezel just has the opening right?
2. Does the rectangular part pop-off the rest of the bezel or is it one piece?
Also I'm assuming the blue header is standard USB 3 and not something weird though it doesn't matter if I use the stock i/o hub, I was originally going to go with an after market hub in a drive bay..
Have to say it's nice and inexpensive build with the parts and also DDR3 and used processors being cheap now.

Re: 1. Does it mount on the metal chasis? The front panel bezel just has the opening right? Yes to both
2. Does the rectangular part pop-off the rest of the bezel or is it one piece?
FIO rectangular module slides and pops off from metal chassis after removing one screw (video 1:00). All plastic bezel is just a store front cover. Note the power switch module is not part of front IO. It should be already included w 3020sff case.
3. I'm assuming the blue header is standard USB 3 and not something weird.
Correct. notably high end 7010 sff mobo has standard blue usb 3.0 socket, while cheap entry level 3020 sff mobo has no usb 3.0.

Thanks, I'm loving these refurbishments - can't beat motherboards at less than $15 etc., just have to do a little research.

yes do a little research and planning helps a smooth case swap. Tear down video 1 and video 2 show there are many cables to reattach in sff case.
