To my understanding I don't think the i5 2500k is compatible with the 390.
Dell Optiplex 390 CPU Compatible List:
The 2011 Optiplex 390 was only validated with the following i3/i5 CPUs:
MHF7R i5-2400 Sandy Bridge, 3.10GHz, 6MB, 95w, 4C, D2
950R3 i3-2130 Sandy Bridge, 3.40GHz, 3MB, 65w, 2C, Q0
972H5 i3-2120 Sandy Bridge, 3.30GHz, 3MB, 65w, Q0
5MH9T i3-2100 Sandy Bridge, 3.10GHz, 3MB, 65w Q0

Although Dell did not validate i5-2500, i5-2500 and i5-2400 have identical CPUID signature: 206A7. This means bios will support both cpu. As far as bios is concerned during POST, it only checks whether installed cpu matches a list of cpuid stored in bios.
i5-2500k and i5-2500 have identical cpuid too. the only caveat in optiplex is Dell bios does not support OC of -k cpu.

Hellow Broughton01 I've recently ordered a i5 2500k and is about to ship. I also have an optiplex 390 with a 0M5DCD motherboard. I'll update whether the i5 will work with the 390. I'm not sure if its guaranteed to work since the 2500k isn't sold with 390 by Dell. But I've seen this website which provides the full specifications of the board.
http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/specs-m5dcd-dell/
And it claims that both the 2500 and 2500k is compatible with the board. Though I am still not sure and I'm hoping that it could still work without the access of OC (I dont really mind oc) because I'm on a tight budget right now.

UPDATE!: I can confirm that the I5 2500K works with the 0M5DCD mobo. Although I dont think that you are able to overclock but its fine
