Optiplex 3010 DT: Additional HDD?

Hello:

I have a small collection of Optiplex 3010 Desktop systems that all have the OEM 250 GB SATA HDD and I'd like to add an additional HDD to each of the systems.

Is that possible? What adapters will be necessary to mount the HDD inside the case?

TIA,

Spoiler

super basic questions, all are, (I will show all limits, here) long.

there is no limit in software A to Z drives and more with w10,(w10 has VOLUMES)

the only limits are , inside the case and out.

outside be infinite right?  endless space in a home or office, near.

you can in fact use USB external drives, or eSATA drives or even raid cards with external SAS ports.

that can in fact run banks of HDD or SSD outside any PC, using the x16 slot is best.

inside you can even tie warp SSD drives till the cows come home, after all SSD had no motor and are not subject to HDD shocks, (g-force rules) so there is no limit unless adding old RUST drives, are you>

why use  RUST?  (IDK) but why? SSD are cheap now, no really buy 1TB AND BE HAPPY.

My PC here, have  a drive cage and holds 2 drives, and needs the drive caddy to fit in 2nd drive.

some dells only have 2 SATA power connectors, (sux) and can not have 3rd drive, but a better PSU cures that. with real ATX PSU.

you do have 4 sata ports but you can in fact and more in PCI-e slot, any time you want.

problem 1:

small form factor DT is, and PSU is not ATX sized limiting hDD cables.

you could remove the DVD cage and put in generic 2.5" or 3.5" cage there. but is riveted in .. I drill those out.

the DT has 3 SATA power cable  , I just looked.

the HDD cage looks like one 3.5' drive there, next time BUY MT, DT are no good for  expanding unless you buy SDD ok>?(inside) outside is easy.

I read you manual page 15 states, top drive 3.5"  and bottom is 2.5" so put huge  SSD there,

do not buy RUST drives 2020 , end it.

there is no limit on external drives.

there is no limit inside If you use SSD the limit is tie wrapping SSD to things inside and DVD cage pulled wow lots of space there.

I can not find photos of the cute DVD Dell eject casing nor photo of the drive, ahhh google. does

the drives is full size ,did you know the sell DVD to HDD cages, that replace the HDD cage with new cage

that can fit 2 more 2.5" SSD drives (for example)>?

your limit is 3, drives, or 4 using old DVD cables.

I think  I answer every way from SUnday,

any shop worth salt can do this, and go SSD ok? (no motors, no sound, and more green and no more dead HDD 5 years old)) end RUST now.

see this. top 3.5": and bottom seen here 2.5"  just look and see that,  we always look first.

caddy.jpg

ever seen this.  (5.25 to 2.5" DVD cage adapters, do work, done many.) to add 3rd drive . more if new PSU

Download PDF Service-Manual.

Sure, you can add HDD, but most users install (now inexpensive) SSD now-days (especially for the boot drives). Makes these old machines way-faster and snappier.

Yes - But how can I install the second HDD? e.g., What mounting hardware will be required?

id not do that, at all

id put a 512GB or 1TB SSD it and boot that, install w10 fresh and run it. (you;'d be amazed !)

why do you need 2nd drive , usage matters,  as is what kind of data,  email backups or endless chain of 4GB each videos, files like MKV or MP4 or?

computers are engines, what do you want to use  your engine to do, all things, all 10,000 things it can do .

and all matter, what you do.

gaming? AAA+

video rendering.

10,000 PDF books> ?

there is fast storage , or off line even, my backup drives are off line. here. resting,... until needed.

speed /size, online and off.
