What?? Nothing whatsoever to do with anything sata.
All 780s use proprietary non standard 24 pin MINI MOLEX
https://www.moddiy.com/products/Dell-980-960-780-760-PSU-24-Pin-to-Mini-24-Pin-Adapter-Cable-10cm.html
Connector and its not 1 to 1 straight Thru.
You can use a regular power supply outside the case
and run wires into the hole left behind with the internal power supply removed.

EPS12v 24 pin to 760 780 980 etc
outside case

@redxps630
There is no such standard as MINI ATX 20 or 24 pin so I dont understand your References to that.
The adapter you recommended appears to be straight thru. This is NOT compatible with ANY dell
Moddiy EPS12V 24 pin to 780 works Fine.

Posting that ANY 780 has a connector that is ATX or EPS12v 24 pin is just plain Wrong.
The connectors are Molex.
Not one to one or straignt thru

780DT motherboard uses mini sata 24 pin. When you swap case, no guarantee a standard 24 pin of psu will work using a sata to mini sata 24 pin adapter.

780DT/SFF motherboard uses mini ATX 24 pin. When you swap case, no guarantee a standard 24 pin ATX of non OEM psu will work using a 20 pin ATX to 24 pin miniATX adapter.
(780 MT motherboard uses standard ATX 24 pin)
using a standard off the shelf 20 pin ATX to 24 pin miniATX adapter, one could not even turn on orange light on 780 SFF motherboard. cannot explain why. caveat emptor. Other user might report different experiences. If one must upgrade DT/SFF psu, recommend 24 pin ATX to 24 pin miniATX adapter which may have better chance of success. https://www.amazon.com/Female-Mini-Male-Power-Cable/dp/B01FN234WA

may try this (pending user success report): https://www.walmart.com/ip/ATX-PSU-24Pin-To-Mini-24Pin-Connector-Cable-Adapter-For-DELL-780-980-760-960-pcs/581197448?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=18988&&adid=22222222227353212681&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=440716983260&wl4=pla-913345071267&wl5=1023419&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=125210027&wl11=online&wl12=581197448&veh=sem&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9qjosMuF7gIVOYlbCh3OiQkcEAQYAiABEgLpA_D_BwE
