HD 8490 in an optiplex 390 sff?

it is a old and basic low power entry level gpu.  not good gpu to choose in modern days unless you are doing old retro gaming only.  power is not issue.

@redxps630​ do you have any recommended gpus for a system like this? Dont need anything too powerful, entry to midrange?

@redxps630​ what about any gpus with analogue outputs? Monitor is vga only but i can use dvi adapter. 

HD 8490 and hd 6450 are both old and slow cards not worth buying in 2024.

Which one performs better, currently have an optiplex 390 sff with the i5 2400, wondering if the hd 6450 performa better than the integrated graphics already on. Using only for web browsing and some occasional light gaming.

@Simtax​ If your monitor only supports VGA I would strongly suggest upgrading to a monitor that has either HDMI or DP inputs or preferably both. And the cards I suggested should have HDMI on them. That adapter would be found at Amazon here. Or DVI to VGA here.

RX 6400 is only 53w and can play games like Fortnite and Minecraft.

Re: occasional light gaming.

define the games.  light would suggest 1080p or lower resolution and old games.  but what are the games?

GTA3 can be played on old gpu

but not GTA5 which is also a relatively old game, still it needs a decent gpu of the past.

CPU of 390 may need to be i7-2600. Required cpu is i3-4150 or faster

i7-6500 is recommended 

gpu recommended is Radeon HD 7750

To clarify, the 390 can't take an i3-4150 or an i7-6500.  I7-2600 is tops.
