Dell OptiPlex 9010 All In One not connecting to internet on Vista
I've been running Vista with the Extended Kernel on my Dell OptiPlex 9010 all in one, and with the WiFi dongle connected, it can't connect to the internet.
As to describe from my post on Microsoft Answers,
"
According to Event Viewer, it says "802.11 connection failed due to unknown reason", and when I try ping it says Error 1231.
I've tried the common commands such as ipconfig -reset, ipconfig -flushdns, ipconfig and more.
I do have a small screenshot showing the error. It won't upload though for some reason.
It is Windows Vista x64 SP2"
Any fixes?
I know Windows Vista is unsupported by Dell officially, but it sort of functions like Windows 7, but more primitive.

I would try a clean install of Vista on a test hdd then install Dell gigabit (edit) Ethernet driver for Win 7 which is probably c/w Vista.
Vista is not officially supported on 9010 AIO driver site

@redxps630 Hi, can you specify what you mean?
On the OptiPlex 9010 AIO site, there is no driver with the word Gigabyte on it.

It was a typo. should be Intel gigabit Ethernet driver which is a generic name.

did you do a clean vista install using genuine Dell installation disc?
in my experience that alone would enable you to connect to internet by ethernet.
two things that can go wrong to stop you:
AIO motherboard LAN port is bad. verify after you plug in cat 5 cable the jack flashes green light. no flash is not good
ethernet cable is not good. verify the cable works to connect to internet by using another pc.

@redxps630 Hi, I'm adding again I'm using wireless right now.
Did not install Vista via genuine installation disk since one didn't come out for the AIO OptiPlex 9010.
But, I do have another Dell laptop [Inspiron 1501] that runs Vista and if I could figure out how, I could see if I could try run an Ethernet cable through from it to the OptiPlex 9010 AIO because I don't have Ethernet where the computer is placed in the house.
