i tried to update iDRAC from 1.41 to 2.90 and it failed...should I just go ahead and update the BIOS from 2.0.3 to 6.4.0 before I swap out the memory?

Swap memory modules in A2, A5 with modules A1, A4 respectively hence A1 with A2 and A4 with A5 and see whether or not the error follow the DIMM to slot A1. If the error follows to slot A1, replace the memory module and if the error remains on slot A1., then you have a fault on slot A1 and may consider replacing the system board. Ensure that system BIOS and iDRAC firmware is up to date.

I only have two modules, one on A1 and the other on A2

I swapped out the memory; so far so good; no errors...Not sure why the iDRAC update failed (1.41 to 2.90). Should I install the BIOS update first and then try iDRAC update again? Thanks for your help!

After swapping the A2 memory module to A1 and A1 module to A2, I've just started getting the same error on A2. Does it mean I need to replace the system board? Can I instead move the two modules to A3 and A4?

You  have a fault on A2 slot. You may move the meory to slots A3 and A4 but this is not a supported memory configuration. The server may POST but with memory errors.

After I got this error the second time after swapping out the modules, I cleared the logs. Ever since then, I haven't seen the error message again since September 2nd. I am going to continue to monitor to see if that has resolved the issue or not.

I had another question about updating the iDRAC and BIOS. When I tried updating the iDRAC, I got an error message. Is there an order in which the updates need to be done. Should I install the BIOS update first before doing the iDRAC? I am asking because I tried to do iDRAC first last time around.

Thanks for your help!

iDRAC and LifeCycle Controller(LCC) provide the infrastructure for updating most firmware and depend on one another.  It is recommended that they are updated  iDRAC and LC firmware should always be upgraded first at the same time before other components. Below is the recommended sequence for firmware update:

1. iDRAC

2. Lifecycle Controller

3. BIOS

4. Diagnostics

5. OS Driver Pack

6. PERC Controller & HDD

7. NIC

8. PSU

9. CPLD

10. Any other update
