Replace HDD on PowerEdge T110 II w/PERC H200

I need to replace a HDD in a RAID-1 array that's showing in Predicted Failure.  I went in to OMSA and went to take the drive off-line and found that under Tasks it only shows "No Task Available".  It shows this for both drives.  How do I get this drive off-line so it can be replaced?

Hello.

Ensure that the controller firmware is up to date. What version of OMSA is installed?

I will check the controller firmware revision.  OMSA is v 6.5.0

Consider using latest OMSA v8.4: www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails

I updated the controller firmware, drive firmware, controller driver for Windows and OMSA.  It is still showing No Task Available.

Has the Predicted Failure field been removed?  It is no longer listed on the drive status section.

Never mind on the Predicted Failure question....  It just changed its status and now it's showing up.  I just need to know how to remove this drive from the RAID-1 array so I can replace it.

Perfect, thank you for your response.  I will replace the drive when the server is powered down and get it to resync one way or another.

Hello

I just need to know how to remove this drive from the RAID-1 array so I can replace it.

The ability to force drives online and offline is not a feature present on all controllers. It is not a feature of the H200.

If the drive is in a backplane then you should be able to just pull the drive. The safest method to remove an online drive from a controller without the ability to offline a drive is to do it with the system booted into the controller BIOS. There should be no writes taking place as long as no drive operations are active when in the RAID controller BIOS.

Thanks

These are cabled drives.   I don't recall the H200 BIOS options very well.  Is there an option in there to off-line the drive?  If not, would it be safe to remove the drive when the system is powered down?

No, there is not an option anywhere to offline a drive on an H200. It does not support that feature.

would it be safe to remove the drive when the system is powered down?

Yes, if the drives are cabled you will need to power down the system to replace the drives. It is safe to replace online drives while the system is powered off with the H200 controller. The controller reads metadata tags from each drive in the array, so you should not have issues introducing a blank drive while the system is powered down.

All you need to do is shut down the server and swap out the drives. You may need to resync the array or set the replacement as a hot spare to get it to rebuild.
