R720 not detecting hard drives

We have a dell r720 with SAS backplane and s110 raid controller. We previously used this server as esxi host and now are wanting to use as a physical windows machine with onboard storage via backplane. Inserted several SSD Sata drives and can't get them to register in the system. Although idrac and display on chasis is indicating drive removed, inserted, etc. No indication in bios, etc.

found some articles that talk about removing power cords, holding power button for some time, resetting idrac and then powering on. tried this with no luck.

Please let me know if you have any other recommendations. thanks

I used these same type of SSD drives on an M620 server with the S110 raid controller configured with a RAID1. did something change?

Hello.

Whereas the backplane can detect insert and remove SSD operations, the S110 controller does not support these type of drives. You may consider disabling the S110 controller by change the SATA mode to AHCI or Non-RAID mode and connect the SSD to the onboard SATA ports, choose to use SATA drives or upgrade to hardware RAID controller like H710 which is supports SSDs.

Article referencing the s110 raid controller we are using and that it supports SSD Sata drives:

Its actually S300 and not S110 that does not support SSD, thanks for catching this. Try re-seat the controller cable. Are the SSDs Dell certified? What is their P/N so that Imay also look up compatibility information.
