Event ID 129 warning LSI_SAS2 Reset to device, \device\RAIDPort 0, was issued

Hello,

We are getting this warning above (a few times) in the event log of an old R710 2008 R2 server which is running a ton of our production SQL stuff. Shortly after this warning appears the server starts to hang. Normally no errors on the server itself but mostly you can't get to SQL anymore and sometimes its so hung you can't even get on the console let alone RDP. The RAID card is a PERC H700 driver version 4.31.01.64 and firmware version 12.10.1-0001. I tried a few things like ensuring the power setting weren't shutting down drives etc,  but so far no luck. I am hoping there are other options out there besides bios upgrades because this server needs to be up 24/7. But, it is was it is, I guess. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello

The reset is usually sent when there is a delay in response. If you are not experiencing any errors reported in the hardware or controller log then this is likely a performance issue. I suggest that you review the hardware and controller log. You should also run diagnostics on the drives. Be sure to save and clear the logs before running diagnostics. If all caching is functional and the array is optimal without issue then the performance of the RAID chain may not meet your needs.

Thanks

Thanks for the response. I looked at the OpenManage logs and in 'alerts' it shows a bunch of stuff but it looks like it only populates the log after the system is restarted. There is nothing before the times it just hung.  Soooo.. when you say diagnostics,  is that something in OpenManage or is there another Dell app I should download and try? Just want to make sure I run the correct software.  Thanks again; very much appreciated.

The R710 should have diagnostics built into the Lifecycle/Controller. They are available in the system services menu during boot. Alternatively, 32-bit diagnostics can be downloaded and booted. We also have the online diagnostics application that can be run within an operating system. They are available under the diagnostic category:

Thanks
