Have this issue on various models of Dells. About 2-3 out of every 20. Haven't found a solution.
Have tried disabling Power Management, updating drivers, etc.. These are freshly imaged.
Dell 6420/6430/6520/6530/6540/6440
Currently Intel-6205 card in the 6530 I have in office. Have had this issue since Windows 1607 at least. Can't remember if 1511 had the same behavior.
They are fine once connected, but once they are restarted, then it might or might now reconnect. Right now Windows 10 1809. Have used 1607, 1703, 1709, 1803, and now 1809.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for the excellent link, we have covered everything in the guide but still the same behavior. Any other ideas?
Best wishes,
Craig

I got my wi-fi connecting automatically on boot.
After making following changes:
I have both LAN and wi-fi connections.
My Lan connections were plugged into a different router.
On the network menu the lan appeared as network 2
and the wi-fi list was below showing available routers
I uninstalled, deleted, the lan network.
Restarted computer
now prior to logon the network icon appears as radio waves with an X through it
the X promptly vanishes.
Without clicking on this icon I just logon.
Now the wi-fi is connected automatically.
So far so good.
My next step is to plug the ehthernet cables into my main router and enable lan
and see what happens. (this would be the normal hookup)
The setup I had worked except that I had to connect wi-fi manually for each boot.
Created my own problem!
