Wireless Connection

Hi
I have an Inspiron 6400 with Intel Pro WLAN 3945 Internal Wireless (802.11a/b/g 54mps) for Core 2 Duo Processors.
I have checked it is enabled in the BIOS.
Device manager confirms 'device is working properly' .
When I try to set up a wireless connection using the wizard I am told wireless capability is turned off and needs to be turned on.
Using FN/F2 does nothing.
Can anyone help please.

Has it always done this? If not and you are under warranty, I would contact Dell.

Does the WIFI light ever come on (the fourth light from the left)?

What OS are you running? I cannot get mine to work in Linux, but it works fine in Windows XP (I have the Dell wireless card though).

Look in the Device manager and see what the status is.

Only had the computer two months and the WI/FI has never worked, the WI/FI light does not come on.
I am going through the Dell Support process at the moment, tried BIOs and Device Manager at thier suggestion but no luck - just thought I would try the forum as well.

Device manager confirms 'device is working properly'  and in the Network Adapters it only gives the option to 'disable' which means  the device is enabled (switched on) had some more info from Dell Support but its not cured the problem yet

If the light does not come on, then you have a hardware issue.  From all you report, everything else appears to be okay.

Yes I think your right but I will let this Dell customer support run its course which should then arrive at the same conclusion - thanks for your interest

Just to let you know have re-installed driver for WIFI option at Dells suggestion and now it works - I was almost positive it would be a hardware failure
