Wireless connection problems with Dell Mini 1390 Wlan and Wifi Router US Robotics 8054

Hello,

first of all I want to say that I just read during 3 hours these forums UNTIL making this post.

I definetly didn't find solution to my problem and found MANY people with the same or very similar problem - hope to find now a solution with this post.

I bought a DELL E1505 with 1390 mini Wifi card.  have Wireless connection problems with my Wifi Router US Robotics 8054.

Manually and with the dell Wifi Conection manager I didn't had success. In the dell Wifi conection manager I never had a signal on the radio symbol.

I tested a lot of stuff (XP updates, DELL Wifi driver update) but NO results.

Is here anyone how has an idea or is it mazbe better spending 30 USD on a USB Wifi Adapter and forget that DELL has a built-in card ?

Thx in advance for your help.

Patrick

Is the router broadcasting its SSID?  Is encryption enabled on the router?  Is MAC address filtering enabled on the router.   Do you have any other computers that are sucessfully connecting to the router by wireless?  Have you tried resetting the router to its default settings?  I have the same wireless card and travel all over the country with it.  I have not yet found any incompatibilites, but I don't know if I have ever connected to a USR 8054.

How did you go about resetting the router to it's default settings?   With the default settings, there would be no encryption, MAC address filtering would be disabled, and the SSID would be broadcasting.

Thx for fast reply ! Here the answers:

Is the router broadcasting its SSID?     well in the Dell Wifi Conection manager appears the name of my router and the signal strength but I can't get a connection !
Is encryption enabled on the router?  I am not sure ...
Is MAC address filtering enabled on the router.   Yes and I added my MAC adress but no conection ! I have to conect to the router from another laptop because I can't connect directly from mine ...
Do you have any other computers that are sucessfully connecting to the router by wireless?  of course .. I have 5 friends which conected themselves without problems.
Have you tried resetting the router to its default settings?  yes ... no results.

Any other idea now ?

Exactly what happens when you go to Network Connections, right click on the wireless network connection, select "View available wireless networks", select your wireless network, and click on the connect button?

As an additional troubleshooting step, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

Well i reseted and as I mean no results I meant that I didn't get any connection neither ! Of course there where no MAC adress settings to do nor the name of my router was the one before but as you say broadcasting - but I couldnt connect to it. This is what is so strange that I can see the router in Dells tool and also in Windows but I can' t connect to it !

Hi,

On the router configuration page, try disabling the turbo and frame bursting mode.

Please make sure the router has latest firmware installed on it. Click on the link http://www.usr.com/support/8054/8054-files/USR8054_v167b44.zip to access the same. Please note updating firmware would reset the router to default settings like ISP settings, Security, etc.

If none of the above steps seem to fix the problem try downgrading the drivers for the wireless card to R102320.exe

Rgds

You are still not very clear on how you reset the router.  Does it have a reset button?  If so, push and hold the reset button for about 8 seconds while the router is turned on.  Now try connecting again.

I can't Thank You enough. Upgrading the firmware on the USR8054 did the trick. I had 2 other laptops connecting through the USR8054 and the Dell 620 could see the USR8054 but wouldn't connect. I upgraded the firmware as suggested in your post (Quick and painless!!!) Rebooted the USR8054 and I was up and running in less than 5 minutes. I only had to run the setup wizard to re-establish my Verizon DSL connection. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
