Re-verify that the NICs are On within the Integrated Devices menu of the System Setup. Then, clear the NVRAM, boot into Windows, and attempt to reload the drivers.

If the NIC is still not recognized, and you are using Windows 95/98/ME/2000, boot into Safe Mode, and go to the Device Manager. If there is an Other Devices category, double click it and remove all devices listed underneath this category. Also, open the Network category and remove any listed devices. Click Close, restart the computer, and allow Windows to boot and attempt automatic reinstallation of the appropriate drivers.

I just ran accross a similar problem with a GX150, I had to go in to the properties of the NIC card and to the advanced tab and change my speed to 100Mbs and the duplex to full, then reboot.

- the event viewer says
- the 3com megahertz LAN PC Card (ethernet) service failed to start due to the following error:
- A device attached to the system is not functioning.

If you are using a desktop system, this is the incorrect driver for the NIC within your system. Unfortunately, I cannot tell exactly which system or NIC you are using; you should be able to find the latest drivers for your specific system on the Dell File Library.

I had problem with intergrated 3Com NIC on my Optiplex G1 BIOS version A10 running Windows 98 1st release with a slot 1 PII 400/100/512 CPU. Though I did what Dell support agent Cody K. suggested (clear the NVRAM and remove all devices listed underneath "Other Devices" and "Network adapter", the intergrated 3Com NIC sitll was not recognized in "Intergrated Devices" in System Setup (F2), nor in Windows system properties. The intergrated 3Com NIC on the motherboard was labeled "Parallel Tasking II 3Com 40-0483-001" and there's a RJ45 port in the rear case.

Any ideas to resolve this matter is greatly appreciated.
