Modem Device Error 39

Question

I have a persistent error regarding my Broadcom fax modem in my Dimension 2350. Device manager gives an error code 39, meaning the drivers are corrupted, so I remove 'em, reload 'em, get 'em from the original disks, get new drivers from the web, and do it all again, and move the modem around to the other empty slots, and do the whole thing again, and still the same error persists.

I even pulled out an old Compaq modem from a machine in the house, which i installed, and the machine identified it, added drivers, but came back with the same error.

Before all this, the machine has worked fine. On the same day as this, in addition to the modem driver error, the two CD drive drivers went south. I removed and reinstalled them with no issues, but whenever I try to do any system restore, the same three device errors show up.

Any suggestions? Is there a set of windows files that I sd be looking at, that, by being corrupted themselves, would mistakenly identify the modem drivers as bad? I really don't want to reformat and reload Windows. I'm using WinXP Pro.

Before the advent of Windows 2000 (and later Windows XP), boot-sector viruses caused problems with the CDROM drive's drivers similar to what you have described. To be safe, ensure that your antivirus software has been fully updated with the most recent virus and worm definitions, and perform a complete system scan. If this does not resolve the error, you may also try running an excess software removal tool on your system such as AdAware or SpyBot.

If you are still experiencing driver problems, try reinstalling your Intel Chipset drivers; if these have become corrupted, they can lead to problems with multiple seemingly unrelated device drivers.

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)Reasons for this error include a driver that is not present; a binary file that is corrupt; a file I/O problem, or a driver that references an entry point in another binary file that could not be loaded.
Uninstall the driver, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver.

On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooting wizard.

click on the device in the device manager then click delted on the keyboard

Remember to have your 56k data fax modem cd ready to reinstall the drivers ,put the cd back in and click english>utilities>modem helper
