Linksys wireless router not recieving internet connection

Hi,
I have just changed over from cable internet to DSL.  My Linksys router was working fine when I had the cable, but now it dont want to work.  I have installed the disk and went through all the things to reprogram the router and I make it all the way up to it trying to get an anternet connection, and then it says that it  cant, try turning off the modem and back on.  I have tried that to no avail.  I have tried about everything that I can think of.  About to drive me crazy.  I have installed the DSL connection into my laptop and run it from the modem it the laptop so I can get on here.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanx.

Have you set up the router to make the PPPoE connection?  When you shut off the modem, are you waiting for about 5 minutes before turning it back on, then wating a few more minutes before turning on the router?  Cable modems require this waiting time to reset the modem so that it will connect with a new device.

I have DSL, and while turning off the modem & waiting a while is a good suggestion, I haven't needed to wait quite as long as resetting cable. I will usually give it 60 seconds if I need to recycle.

However, as Steve suggested, check to be sure that your router is set for PPPoE connection. You may then have to supply your DSL account username & password.

Yes, I set my router up for PPPoE, I went thru the whole thing, all the way till it said that the router is not getting an internet connection.

Open Network Connections, right click your Local Area Connection and select Properties.   In the list of installed items,  find the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), right click it and select Properties.  Make sure that the box is checked next to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically".

Ok, I did that and it still comes up saying that it can not get an internet connection.  I will get ahold of my provider and have them come in and see what they can do with it.  Thanx for all of you guys help.  Thanx,
