IP Protocol

Hi -

I recently installed WiFi by cable in my apartment.  At the same time, I moved my desktop up one floor.  Although our laptops work fine with the wireless, the desktop doesn't.  When I called the cable company, they told me that the IP Protocol number had changed on my computer and I had to call a technician to get it re-set.  can anyone help me?  The desktop says that the signal is "excellent" but it doesn't connect and I have already received a message about the IP Protocol.  I don't really want to pay the $100 to a technician if I can do it myself but I'm not an expert.

Thanks for any ideas, advice...

What operating system and model number is the desktop? Where is the wireless router physically located in relation to the desktop? Click Start > Run > type "cmd" without the quotes in address window and hit Enter. This will open a black Command Prompt window. Type "ipconfig/all" without the quotes at the blinking cursor. Copy, paste the results into a reply window and post back, please?
