Error Message: Not Responding

I have a Dell Inspiron E1405 Notebook and am having alot of problems. Everything else works fine but the internet is shady. I cant open up a new Tab otherwise the screen freezes and I have to press Ctrl Alt Delete to END NOW. Also, the same thing happens when I try to Bookmark a website, it says Not Responding. I have also noticed that when I go to a website that opens their individual links in new Java pop-ups, I get the same Not Responding error again.

Is there any way to fix this? I had downloaded IE 7 but uninstalled it because it wreaked havoc on my notebook. So I switched back to IE 6 and now I can go to the websites but I still get the Not Responding error. Sometimes it happens also when I click on a link on a page that is supposed to bring me to another page.

I'm a laptop newbie so any feedback/advice you have will definitely be appreciated. Thanks!

Have you checked your system for spyware and malware?  If not, download, install, update, and run the free versions of Ad-Aware and Spybot and let these programs remove all of the garbage that they find.

If these programs don't solve the problem, go Here and follow the directions to download and run the analysis tool called HijackThis. Generate a log file, then open it and copy and paste the text of the log file in a message in the HijackThis forum where a HijackThis expert can offer advice on how to fix the problem.
