Dell 2350 - Cannot connect to VPN! Help!

Question

I cannot connect to the VPN at my workplace through the Dell 2350, even though the manual for the 2350 states that VPN passthrough is supported. As this is one of the main reasons I installed broadband, this is very frustrating. Any help regarding new things to try etc. will be very gratefully recieved!   O.k, my setup is as follows: I have an ADSL modem connected to the internet, which stores my PPPoA account information. The router is connected to the ADSL modem, setup as for a cable modem and hence containing no PPPoA information. Finally, computers in my house connect to the router either via cable or wireless.   Internet < ADSL Modem < Router < Computer   The VPN uses PPTP, and when I try to connect i get an error message: 'Error 800 - Unable to establish the VPN connection'. I have configured my connection such that I am using a static I.P address, and I have set up port forwarding for TCP port 1723 (the port required by the VPN) as suggested by various sources. I have even attempted to run the computer in a demilitarised zone (DMZ), but this had no effect. I can ping the VPN server succesfully. On occasion the VPN has connected, but this has happened  very rarely. When I bypass the router and connect a computer directly to the modem I can connect to the VPN successfully.   So what else can I try? As stated earlier, any help will be very gratefully received. A last resort will be to get rid of the Dell 2350 and buy a new router, but I would rather not have to take this measure.   Thanks

Hi Dell 2350 does not support VPN Passthrough (Configuration Settings Tab where we can enter the VPN settings). There are other routers like Linksys WRT54G that support VPN passthrough. Rgds Chris

If that is the case it would certainly be an explanation for why I cannot connect to the VPN. What doesn't make sense is that the manual states that the router supports VPN pass through, as does this spec sheet:   http://www.dell.com/downloads/emea/services/uk/en/Dell_2350_EN.pdf   So, are the supplied manual and publicly available specifications incorrect? Did you ever resolve this issue? I have spent several hours tyring to figure this out and I even seen in the Help docs that the router is "supposed" to support VPN passthrough, but it doesn't tell you how. duh.
