I cannot get access to my DSL modem's web configuration after I set up my wireless laptop. I have a Linksys WRT54G and connected to the internet via DSL through SBC. I can get to the other websites and router's website fine. I just can't get to the modem's web config website. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Why do you need access to the modem?

I connect to mine using 192.168.1.1
But I have a Westell VersaLink router modem, not sure if its the same number but can't hurt to try.

You need to be connected directly to the modem by ethernet to get to the modem's configuration utility.  You cannot do so by connecting through the router.

I encountered a similar problem on a friends system, when a DSL modem and Router both used the same default IP address, 192.168.1.1. From memory I think all I had to do was use the next available IP address for the DSL modem, ie 192.168.1.2 as its simply one of the devices hang off the router.

Well for beginners, you cannot have have two devices on the LAN with the same IP Address, be they modems and/or routers.  If both have the same default address, the address of the router will have to be changed.

They will not change automatically.

Sorry, I need to clarify...

I have a desktop wired to the modem and wireless router. The IP address for the router is 192.168.1.1 and the IP address for the modem is suppose to be 192.168.0.1 but I cannot access it using that IP anymore. It gives me "IE cannot display this page..." I don't have a specify need to have access to the configurations at this time but I might later on when the thing starts to have problems. I have had issues with faulty modems and have to get the info from it for tech support.  I'm wondering if somehow the IP address got changed or overwritten when I installed the router. My desktop and laptop can access the internet without any problems...Thanks for the replies!

If you need information from the modem, connect directly to it.
