2808 switch cannot get to reset defaults , re ip address 192.168.2.1

I have tried the suggestions in previous forums, re I have my pc nic addressed as 192.168.2.2 and have pressed managed mode reset button many many times on 2808 switch, let it recycle, powered off , on etc.. Switch always goes back to managed mode but fails to reset to ip 192.168.2.1 , re I cannot ping 192.168.2.1 or browse it with either ie or firefox. Does anybody have any other suggestions. I am using known good cat5e cable and a dell machine with known good nic, re I can ping 127.0.0.1, ping adapter 192.168.2.2 , and also if necessary use the adapter after reassigning ip address to use the internet through my router.

Thanks for any help provided  !     :-)

192.168.1.2 ip is known as a independent Ip, used by numerous modem makers as a default Ip. This is actually produced inside the firmware of the wireless router and permits the end client to locate the modem via a browser working at a computer system that is linked to the unit.

Being default Ip does not necessarily mean that it may not be modified by the owner. When the end user desire, he'll be able to alter the Ip to everything except 192.168.1.2 ip based upon their own expectations

The way in which 192.168.2.1 private IP Actually works

This particular Ip is defined as default via the producer for most Philips, Senao and a couple of other hubs and Acces Points. On the other hand, any modem or home computer in a LAN could be created to utilize 192.168.1.2 ip. To stay away from IP issues, just one piece of equipment on the computer network should certainly make use of it.

192.168.1.2 ip is known as a privately owned IPv4 computer network address meaning you should not communicate with a wireless router from the outside your home network group with this ip. Alternatively, you have to utilize the router's public Ip.

DELL-Daniel Co: unfortunately, you may not have read that this is a 2808, which does not have a console connection. Also the user appears to not have access to the switch, so updating the firmware would not be helpful.

Managed Mode Button

The PowerConnect 28xx has a Mode push button on the front panel. The Mode button is for changing

between Managed Mode and Unmanaged (or Secure) Mode and for resetting the device. To transition

between modes, press the button normally. To reset the device, press and hold the button for at least 7

seconds. For more information about management modes and transitioning between them, see

"Management Modes" on page 49

Hello All,

I have a similar circumstance and found a couple forum threads that came close, but didn't solve my problem. I have a Dell PowerConnect 2808. The "Managed Mode" LED continues to flash. I've pressed the button on the front panel, briefly, I've held it for 7 seconds, I've held it for longer than 7 seconds. Nothing seems to force it to select either "On" or "Off" for Managed Mode. I've power cycled the switch many times, let it run for days and it still continues to flash. I cannot connect to the management interface on 192.168.2.1 after setting the NIC configuration to 192.168.2.2 or any other address on the 192.168.2.0/24 network. Is it the case where I'm going to have to ditch this switch, entirely?

Thanks for any feedback!

You might need to call in to the PowerConnect support group to verify the hardware.  It sounds like it may have a hardware failure if it is not changing between management states.  Here is some additional information in the lifetime warranty that comes with the 2800 series switch along with other models.

Hope this helps
