jobsdb in networker8

Hi All,

In networker 8 we have new SQLite database for jobsdb and it is said that the new database is no longer searchable as was the database used in previous versions of NetWorker.

What does it mean and why is it not searchable? savegroup details are now stored in jobsdb. However, if it’s not searchable then its use is limited?

"As in 7.5, 7.6 Savegroup log by job id was a configurable option and not enabled by default. In NetWorker 8.0 and higher, Savegroup log by job id is the default behaviour and is not configurable" Does this mean that the new database is no longer searchable?

Thanks.

The old jobs db was in RAP format and simple editing tools could be used to "search it".   This really means that it was human readable directly.   The jobquery command provides a much higher degree of searchability and usefullness then trying to hand read the db (i.e. search the db).    This was true in the 7.6.x code base where jobquery was first introduced.  More so now that the db is a SQLite db.   Hint, hint, it is a SQLite db

The same can be said for savegrp reports.   There is little benefit in hand searching the savegrp reports.   These are still available in the /nsr/sg but the new nsrsgrpcomp utility properly correlates and collates all the relevant information related to a savegrp.    In verbose mode it is much more usable then the old hand search, scratch head, look in logs model.

The nsrsgrpcomp utility can also be executed anytime to generate completion reports and you are not subject to the old time dependancies or cutoff criteria of the old pre-8.0 days.    As an example, you can generate a savegrp completion report from 10 days ago in it's entirety with full details.  This is not something that could be done previously

You have the commands jobquery and nsrsgrpcomp to query jobs db and generate savegroup completion reports.

Why would you require direct access to the jobs database?

I asked out of curiosity,as in one of the emc docs it mentioned jobsdb is no longer searchable.I am unsure whats the actual meaning of this statrement. Is it like jobsdb does list as a folder on networker server in NW8 as it does in NW 7.6?

Also savegroup details are no longer saved in RAP and temp files so does it make a big difference while troubleshooting?
