P2717H, severe distortion

I'm working on this monitor relatively fresh out of warranty, expired October 25th. The image is fine for a second when the monitor is turned on, and then the distortion starts at the bottom and runs up to the top of the screen. The top 1/4 of the screen is washed out, and that portion of the image seems to be jammed in at the bottom, causing the lower 1/4 of the screen to be compacted and distorted. The lower 1/4 of the screen will jump every few seconds. This behavior is constant through different computers, cables, digital and analog input, even through BID and self test.

Dell does not repair monitors, sell monitor internal components, or have monitor disassembly documentation. We replace them while still inside the purchased warranty period. Once outside of the purchased warranty period, you would have to seek a local Monitor/TV repair center to see if they can disassemble and diagnose the defective internal component. Then look for the internal component on 3rd party sites. Note, the cost of diagnosis and repair might outweigh the current used market value of the monitor.

I may not have been clear in my post. *I* am trying to diagnose and repair this monitor. I haven't seen an issue like this before, so I am looking for some insight, that's all. I know I'll need to source parts, but I would like to narrow it down a little before I start buying replacements. I have plenty of spare 2414 parts, but none for the 2717, and I don't want to waste money if I don't have to.

I have a 2419H with the exact same problem. Switch it on with nothing connected and its fine but after a few seconds the image starts distorting from the bottom running up.

I connected the hdmi to my laptop and manage to stabilise it setting the refresh rate at 50Hz but as soon as you remove the hdmi cable it goes bad after a few seconds.

I would also love to know what causes this since the monitor worked fine a week ago. Not buying a Dell again if they only plan on it working for 12 months with no support after.

That reply was as helpful as “have you tried turning it off and on again”

Hi. Were you able to find more information about this error? I am having the same issue with my monitor. I was able to get a replacement main board and power board and the issue still persisted. I believe this is a hardware issue pertaining to the LCD screen and repairing it might just be out of my wheelhouse.
