I recently purchased this monitor from eBay and everything seemed ok for a month. Then some flickering began and now the monitor goes to solid vertical lines after a few minutes of being on. Is this LCD dead? Can it be repaired and where? I'd hate to think I have a 30" paper weight.
I would suggest you to disconnect the VGA cable from the monitor. vertical lines on the monitor even after disconnecting the VGA cable would indicate monitor being faulty. Alternatively, you could also try setting the monitor settings to default.
In case you see Red/Green/Blue color bars, that means monitor is fine.
I would like to know how your screen looks after disconnecting the VGA cable from the monitor. If you are getting vertical lines on a stand-alone monitor, than it’s an issue with the monitor.
In order to set this monitor back to factory settings, please follow the below mentioned link:
Press the Osd menu button (3rd from the left), you will get an option of “other settings”.
You have to use “+” & “_” keys to select “other option”.
After that you will get “factory reset”, select that .

I'll check that tonight . But how would I reset the monitor if there is no OSD and the monitor goes to stripes too quickly?
