SCOM 2016 and DELL Management Pack for Microsoft System 7.0

Hello!

We are trying to set up SCOM 2016 on Windows Server 2016 and DELL Management Pack for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager v7.0 but so far it is not working.

What we did:

1. Installed  DELL Management Pack for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager v7.0 on management server of SCOM.

2.Imported MPs of DELL Management Pack for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager v7.0 to SCOM.

3.DELL folder is appeared in hierarchies of SCOM folders on monitoring tab.

4.Set up iDRAC using WS-MAN for our dell server (R430 generation13). If we open dashboard with SMASH devices state the state of dell server is health.

5. Created two account: one type: with community string another one: simple authentication for iDRAC log in.

I thought, that after all steps what I did our dell server should be appeared in Server and Rack Workstation (Licensed) area, but I can see our server there.

Could somebody to give me advice where I made a mistake in my configuration? What steps did I miss?

Anton.Ivonin,

There is a few things that can be causing issues with this, such as 7.0 requiring specific OS builds or earlier, or it may not work. What I would suggest is instead using version 7.1.1, found here.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi

Thankyou for writing to Dell.

Based on the post look like below two step missed.

Step 1: Install SMASH template. Refer "Installing Web Services Management (WS-Man) and SMASH Device template" in installation guide page number 37. https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/server-management-pack-suite-v7.0_setup-guide_en-us.pdf

Step 2: Discovery SMASH device using above template. Refer "Discovering a Dell Server " in User guide page number 35. https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/server-management-pack-suite-v7.0_users-guide_en-us.pdf

Hi

Sorry I missed these steps in my descriptions, but I did it (please see on my screenshots), after that I thought my server should appear in Server and Rack WorkStations (LIcensed) area, but it did not appear.

Sorry, that was my mistake. The 7.1.1 one is a patch to 7.1, which can be found here

Thanks, but still no luck, what I did:

1. Deleted 7.0 MP from SCOM and all MPs.

2. Installed 7.1 MP on SCOM and imported MPs version 7.1

3. Applied patch 7.1.1 (from your link) for SCOM.

I would suggest you call in to 1-800-456-3355 and ask for the Systems Mgmt group to help resolve the issue.

Let me know how it goes.

Hello Anton.Ivonin,

If SMASH device state view in "WS-Management and SMASH monitoring" folder has listed the Dell Servers (with healthy health state), you should be able to see the Dell servers in Servers and Rack Workstation (Licensed) state view under Dell folder in Monitoring pane of SCOM console.

Could you please do the following:

1. Check the monitoring level of the Server and Rack Workstation (Licensed) feature in the Dell Feature Management Dashboard. Does it show either scalable or detailed?

2. Go to Authoring -> Management Pack Objects -> Object Discoveries ->  Search for "Dell Server Discovery" for the Server Agent-free management pack (SMASH device) and override this object discovery for all management servers. In the override properties wizard, set log level to 1 and save changes made.

This will generate discovery logs as text file in the C:\Windows\Temp folder and can help us understand if there are any failures in discovery.

Note: If you are trying to use the Dell Server Management Pack Suite v7.1 or 7.1.1 installer, you will be able to use the Server and Rack Workstation Monitoring (non-licensed , agent-based discovery using OMSA) feature and the Server and Rack Workstation Monitoring (licensed , agent-based discovery using iSM) feature.

To use the Server and Rack Workstation (Licensed) agent-free (or discovery using iDRAC) method, please visit:

Link to 7.1 version: https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=gcvkh

Link to 7.1.1 version: https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=xpm43

This is the Dell EMC OpenManage Integration for Microsoft System Center v7.1 integration solution for SCOM console. It is an appliance based solution which includes support for the monitoring of servers through iDRAC feature.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Regards,

Anjana
