Dell XPS 9380 Ubuntu Image OEM?
Hi All,
I have recently purchased a Dell XPS 9380 with Windows 10. I would like to install Ubuntu (dual-boot) on this system.
This page shows me that 18.04 LTS 64-bit with the 4.15.0-1027-oem kernel is certified for this machine. Could someone tell me where I can download the OEM images from please?
I would also be interested to know the package manager URLs for any Dell specific/OEM packages that I might need - e.g. for the touchpad.
Kind regards!

The Dell OEM Recovery Tool is what is used to obtain system images. This requires your service tag in order to validate what OS the system shipped with before it will allow you to download image to a USB device for imaging purposes.

UBUNTU is not listed as a supported os.
Dell does not have any hardware specific versions.
M2 drives might not even show up at all.

When booting to the Ubuntu media on a system that only has a PCIe based m2 drive the Installer cannot locate a hard drive
(the installer usually only looks for /dev/sdx by default).
Add the following kernel argument at boot time:
nvme_load=YES
Press 12 when you see the keyboard prompt:
Press Enter to select Language.
Press F6.
Press Esc.
Modify the boot option to add "nvme_load=YES" and remove "quiet splash ---"

You can only download an OEM image if you bought the laptop pre-loaded with a Ubuntu (or RHEL).
If you have a machine that came with Windows, you are free to install a Ubuntu from the official websites. But I don't think that even if there is an OEM image for your model, you can download it.
Perhaps someone from Dell can confirm this, but it is my understanding that OEM images for Ubuntu can only be downloaded by people using machines that did came preloaded with Ubuntu.
Everyone else that bought machines with preloaded Windows they have to use Ubuntu official images.
Is that right ?
