Sound Input Not Working on Bluetooth Mic

I have a Latitude 5430 running Windows 11 business. I am not able to troubleshoot my mic/sound input on my JBL Bluetooth headphones. The output work fine. I have tried removing/adding the headphones, resetting the headphones, restarting the laptop, installing driver updates to headphones, updates to laptop, permissions are okay, headphone mic works with other laptops.

When I attempt to use them on Teams or Zoom the mic doesn't work, and when I test in the sound settings I am not successful. The headphones appear and can be selected as the sound input, but the format drop down and volume slider don't function. This is vital functionality for me to complete my job responsibilities and an urgent need.

HY there i can see your post and i must say

  1. Check Bluetooth Connection: Make sure that the Bluetooth microphone is properly paired and connected to the device you're using (e.g., computer, smartphone). Sometimes, connectivity issues can lead to problems with sound input.

  2. Verify Microphone Functionality: Test the Bluetooth microphone with another device to confirm whether the issue is specific to your current device. If it works with other devices, the problem might be related to settings or compatibility on your primary device.

  3. Check Sound Settings: On your device, go to the sound settings and ensure that the Bluetooth microphone is selected as the input device. Make sure the microphone is not muted and that the input volume is appropriately set.

Thanks and regards

@user_611b95 Did you ever resolve this? I'm running Dell Latitude 5430's brand new. Apple Airpods connect and can hear fine but microphone doesn't work.

It seems a common issue with this laptop. My workplace has huge issues with this model. I have changed twice of laptops, all being the same model, and the microphone issue for Bluetooth headphones happened on all of them.

We recently replaced the laptops in the company with this model. Since then every one using Latitude 5430 with Windows 11 has this issue. We tried with multiple headsets, all have this problem. Paired, connected properly, very often sound problems, not only with the microphone but with sound too. Must say that I personally have had troubles not only with headsets sounds but with external camera microphone too. Sometimes when I start Meet, it gives me the microphone is not working. I change it with another one and then select the camera mic again and most of the time this helps but sometimes there's no way to have microphone and sound working till I restart the laptop.

This is coming to be a huge problem in the company, so Dell guys, any update on this problem?

P.S. checked the drivers, all installed with the Dell Update app. All devices are marked as working properly.

I came here hoping to find a solution for this same issue. Brand new Latitude 5540 less than a week old. Tried pairing it with two different Bluetooth headsets with microphones that pair and recognize with the mic just fine with another Windows 11 PC, and the Dell laptop failed to recognize the mic (just the audio) on both. Dell Command says everything is up to date so no outdated drivers.

Nothing to test after pairing as the Bluetooth pairing doesn't even recognize that the headsets have microphones, so dead in the water as to what to try here.

Same problem.  Corporate Dell Latitude 7440 running Windows 11 Enterprise.  All available updates areinstalled.  Laptop issued less than 6 months old, but Bluetooth audio fail just started a few weeks ago.

Settings say the earbuds are connected for audio & mic and they're selected for input and output.  I'm using Soundcore Sport X10 and other BT earphones that have worked with the machine in the past (audio and mic) and currently work with my phone for both functions.

Have tried all solutions listed here multiple times in both Zoom and "new Teams" to no effect, PLUS I just discovered BT audio isn't even working on web-based stuff - established platforms like YouTube, MediaSite, Business Journals.  Tried all on Firefox and Chrome.  Wildly frustrating.

Nobody else in my (small) department has this exact problem but everyone with a Dell has at least one major issue that impedes functionality/productivity.  Laptop refresh is every 3 years and most folks are still on machines from prior vendor (starts with H and ends with P) so I'm sure we have years left on the new contract with Dell.... we're a health system with 19k employees, so we need this to be sorted out soon!

Today I will proceed with the action of last resort: calling the help desk.

I'll be checking back here for updates.

A SOLUTION!  (Corporate Dell Latitude 7440 running Windows 11 Enterprise)

Helpdesk paid me a visit today and after running through all the troubleshooting he had already done on the phone 🙄 and unpairing all my BT earbuds, he guided me to what I now call "secret Windows updates":

1. In Settings, click or search for Windows Update.

2. Click the arrow next to "Check for updates".

3. Click "Check online for updates from Microsoft Update".

4. Install whatever updates are available and restart as directed.

Bam.  Fixed.

My company doesn't allow these updates to be set to run automatically (why?????), but all of them - upwards of 2 dozen waiting, including at least 5 or 6 that had to do with audio (including speakers, mic, and Bluetooth - did install successfully when prompted.  I subsequently paired and connected BT earbuds and participated in a Teams meeting.

My new friend/hero told me these laptops often come to us NEW with problems like non-functioning camera, speakers not installed, and piles of uninstalled updates.  Hard to believe and yet there it is.
