latitude 5480 RAM upgrade

My computer (latitude 5480) does not recognize 32GB of RAM (hx424s14ibk2/32) Looking at the specs, it should work, but when I install it I get error 2 amber - 3 white...

I've seen posts from the past but no resolutions.

What happens if you try 1 module? Try either module but only 1 at a time. It could be that the RAM, and it is high performance RAM, is not compatible. The following is from the HyperX site. They suggest clearing the CMOS. You can do that by removing the CMOS battery (coin cell) for 15 minutes then reinsert the battery.

HyperX memory is built with aggressive settings. Not all systems will be able to run at these aggressive settings.

Please verify that your HyperX module is compatible with the specific Intel or AMD chipset on your motherboard. If your memory uses XMP profiles for overclocking, change the memory settings in your BIOS to “auto” and/or clear the CMOS to return it to default settings. If the memory fails at the default settings, please contact our technical support for assistance.

Note: HyperX Predator modules feature two overclock profiles (XMP). Profile 1 is the most aggressive, and the advertised speed of the part. Profile 2 is less aggressive, in case the first profile is too extreme for your system. FAQ: KTM-030615-HYX-10

Do you upgrade BIOS? Do you run this RAM module HX424S14IBK2/32 or buy other, with one. Currently I don't know to buy it or not, after reading your post.

i have a dell 5480 (motherboard 0R75NX) and it seems that XMP is not working.

Lets hope dell can fix this with a bios update so it handle the higher 2400 and 2666 MHz speeds, or  2 slots do not support 16GB DDR4 xmr at all, i have not tested it with  2133MHz yet.

it depends where you look, Kingston says the laptop supports 2400, but my CPU is a soldered i5-7300u and intel list it at 2133DDR4 only.

one 16GB 2400 seems to boot sometimes but it is flaky.

I think the i5 model only supports 2133. Where you able to make it run at these speeds? is this configurable at Bios? I might be upgrading soon So I am asking.

Welcome to the Dell Community  @umezawa88

The system can use DDR4-2400

It will clock-down to 2133 MHz just like any other system would. "Except some MacBook's"

i found 2x8GB SODIMM DDR4 Synchronous Unbuffered (Unregistered), it clocks at 2667 MHz (0.4 ns) from Fujitsu, working like a charm now. 32GB seemed to much.

@JOcean you are a saver tnx a lot, i googled to find cmos battery but couldnt find it on my dell g15 5530 so i just disconnected the cable of the battery and waited 15 mins and it worked for me. I feel like this cmos battery is not present no more in new pc's

Happy to help out and though the 5480 has a CMOS battery you are correct that the 5530 does not. And in fact the service manual instructions to clear the BIOS are exactly what you have done, nice work!
