Dell WD19[S] docking stations sometimes can't connect to displays on the latest firmware

Dell Dock WD19

Our Dell Latitude fleet receives driver updates via Dell Command | Update at the first of the month, and a firmware update for the Dell Dock WD19[S] was included in yesterday's scheduled run. After the update was applied, some users with older Latitude laptops experienced issues where their displays would continuously produce a picture and then go black. Newer Dell Latitude laptops were tested and don't experience this issue. After several hours of troubleshooting, it was discovered that the issue would be resolved if a previous Dell Dock WD19[S] firmware was applied.

Steps to reproduce this issue:

  • A Dell Latitude 5510, 5590, or older laptop with the latest BIOS and drivers is connected to a Dell Dock WD19[S].
  • The Dell Dock WD19[S] runs firmware version 01.00.36, 01.00.20.
  • Displays connected through HDMI and DisplayPort will produce a picture for a few moments and then go black.
    • The laptop display settings will act as if the displays connected to the docking station are being disconnected and reconnected.

If the affected Dell Dock WD19[S] has its firmware reverted to version 01.00.32, 01.00.16 using the /f parameter on the firmware update utility, the docking station will work as expected with the Dell Latitude laptops and connected displays.

Hi, I got similar issues with WD19 firmware 01.00.36, 01.00.20
After upgrade USB connected headset is not working, just giving noise.
Rollback to 01.00.32, 01.00.16 fixes the problem. Rollback with /f parameter.
