Dell latitude e5470 - RAM upgrade

Hi, i just bought the Crucial 16gb ddr4 2400 sodium for my laptop but when I installed it, my laptop would not run. I don't know the reason why it couldn't work. When I checked on Crucial website, the ra, can be used for this laptop

Welcome to the Dell Community @Louis.t

It all depends what CPU you have installed.

I recently tested 32GB ( 2x16GB) in an E5470 or E5570 with i7 Quad Core and worked just fine.

When I get to my warehouse I will check the model number to make sure.

I am looking for one with the i5-6300u to see if 32GB will work.

I suspect it will not but I like to test things before I post an answer.

What CPU do you have installed???

Best regards,

U2

@Louis.t

It was the E5570 but I did find an E5470 to test.

Hi, thanks for answering my trouble. I have used the Intel i5-6200U.

Is the mhz of ram influenced to the laptop? because I bought the single Crucial 16gb dual rank 2400mhz; where as, the e5470 can fit with 2133mhz ram. I don't know why it can't work with my laptop. After installing the ram and turning on laptop, the power was on but there was nothing appeared on screen and then laptop would be off. I tried many times but it didn't work

As has been true for multiple generations of Intel CPU, the CPU contains the memory controller and therefore determines the speed at which the RAM will run.

Was there a lower density module in that socket before -- and if so, does it still work?

If the lower density module does but the new 16G modules does not, you may have a memory socket that's beginning to fail.

@Louis.t

When I add the ( 2 x 16GB ) 32GB and turned on the laptop it stayed blank (Black) for at least 20-30 seconds.

Then it turned itself off and then automatically turned itself on for another 20-30 seconds before it finally produced the screen telling me the amount of memory changed hit f2 to go to setup.

The best thing would be to install the memory, turn it on and just let it go.

And when you think it was long enough let it go for another 30 seconds.

intel website say i5-6200U support only 2133MHz DDR-4 ram type.

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/88193/intel-core-i5-6200u-processor-3m-cache-up-to-2-80-ghz.html

so you need to change your ram to 2133MHz

There is some other problem and I'll be testing it again Monday.

@Louis.t

Just tested a single in both slots PC4-2400T 16GB.

Works fine in both slots and as expected it clocks down to 2133MHz

Try the memory in both slots.

If it will still not boot then return/exchange it ASAP.
