Dell Latitude 7340 - Loud ticking noise coming from fan area
Latitude 7340
Hi!
Recently I purchased a Dell Latitude 7340 and started noticing a ticking noise coming from the fan area whenever the fan is spinning. It is especially well to hear when the laptop is turned on its side. I have already tried replacing the fan thinking that it would be the culprit, but unfortunately the ticking noise persists. If I push the fan to stop spinning, the ticking noise persists for a couple of moment
s before vanishing, only to reappear whenever the fan starts spinning again (see attached video). Any idea what the culprit for this noise could be?
Thanks for any help!

It was indeed the heatsink assembly, after replacing that, the ticking noise disappeared.

It looks like the fan is clean and clear of dust -- if it isn't, start by cleaning the fan.
If the noise continues and is position sensitive, it's likely the fan bearing is on its way out. Replace the fan.

@ejn63 Hi! I already replaced the fan today but the ticking continues which is why I find the issue to be one of the weirder ones

That would leave either the heatsink assembly (did you replace that?) or the mainboard itself (does the ticking occur on battery as well as on AC power?)

@ejn63 I didn't replace the heatsink assembly, I guess that would be the next step. The ticking does occur both on battery as well as on AC power but I can feel the ticking when I push down the heatsink and it does disappear when I hold down the fan after a couple of seconds, so I would assume it has something to do with that area, I don't think the sound is coming from the mainboard itself.
