Can DELL Latitude 5490 support to install 2nd SSD?
I have just bought a new DELL Latitude 5490 for doing work which already install one SSD (M.2) in 256 GB.
If I need to install another new SSD (M.2 or SATA) into my Latitude 5490, Can I do it?
Thanks,
Sara T.

Sara T,
You can only add 1 hard drive to the system.

Thanks for your confirmation.
Firstly, I thought it should have a way to add one more SSD (M.2+SATA) or (M.2+M2) at least.

Does this mean add 1 SATA to the existing M.2 SSD or just one drive only (either SATA OR M.2 SSD)?

Dear friends,
my Dell Latitude 5490 exceeded all my expectations. I am very satisfied with the performance of all tasks.
However, the 256GB of SSD storage (M.2) limits somewhat.
I want to know if I can install a second solid SSD disk in addition to the M.2 I already have.
See the photo:
M.2 SSD 256 gb
I have a free slot called J SATA what can I connect there?
See the picture:
JSATA slot
The 256GB SSD m2 already takes up a good amount of space.
What can I connect to the J SATA port and how to attach it there?
Thank you in advance,

See this tutorial I found:
https://www.instructables.com/id/Add-a-Second-SSD-to-a-Dell-Latitude-E5470-Laptop/
A second 1TB SSD was installed, see the parts:
Installation is unconventional. An adaptation was made.
My question is: Does the Dell Latitude 5490 accept a SECOND SSD on the Jsata port (as it was done in this tutorial) with 1TB of capacity?
I think I read somewhere that the Dell Latitude 5490 does not accept more than 480gb of storage.
Does this confer? Is there such a limitation?
I found the adapter to connect to the J SATA port here:
https://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=23284
And how is the performance using the mSATA to SATA adapter?
How fast will it read and write?
And the temperature?
As I already said, I am very happy with my Dell 5490 and do not want to make any adjustments that could compromise the service life, temperature, and especially worse reading and writing speed.
By the word: Dell support.
Regards,
Liamx

Hi I by passed the msata to sata adapter part by using a Samsung Evo 860 500 gb SSD. If you take it out of the SSD case the PCB is about a quarter of the size, I put insulating tape on it, I have the i5 8350u CPU.

Instead of installing a second ssd why don't you replace the existing sata m2 drive with a bigger nvme m2 drive?
The jngff slot than now occupies your sata drive can be used for pcie nvme as well. I replaced it in mine with a samsung evo nvme m2 drive. It's plug and play. When you enter the bios you can see the sata info as "none" and the pcie info as the drive's serial. As I found out the limitation in sata is 500GB and in pcie is 1TB.

I have spent hours trying to find good advice, but not found any clear details,
MY5490 has the 2.5 inch ssd, I wish to remove this and replace it with a Crucial P3 pcie3 nand NVMe which I already have in my stock of spares,
Will it go straight in or do i need any extra parts [caddy's, clips, heat sinks &, etc]
