XPS 13 (9343) Which option do I chose to use both mic and headphones on combo jack

Hi,

I've recently bought new XPS 13. On clean install Windows 8.1 I have audio drivers from dell website. After I connect 4 pin headphones (working well on phone) I have few options to chose, but none of them provide support for using both mic and headphones. So how can I use mic and headphones at the same time?

Hello. Does it help to select Microphone as the default device in the Recording tab and Speakers as the default device in the Playback tab?

These are options to chose after I connect mic+headset:

Translation:

headphones, speakers out, headphones, mic in, line in, skullcandy headphones, dell speaker out, skullcandy headphones

and these are default devices:

no matter which option I chose from first screen I cant get mic+headphones work together.

I would uncheck "Enable automatic dialog box when connecting devices" -- disable that and then manually select the devices in the Sound properties. You won't see a separate listing for either "Headphones" or "External mic", just make Speakers and Microphone the default devices.

For an external mic (the mic of your headset) to work, you should have the Realtek audio driver installed. Your screen shot is showing "Technologia Intel Smart Sound" instead of Realtek. I am not familiar with the full capabilities of the Smart Sound, but Intel High Definition audio drivers on Dell laptops do not support the external mic jack, so for the best chance of success install the Realtek driver.

But thats what I have after installing drivers from Your link. After I install Realtek audio driver I have in sounds "Technologia Intel Smart Sound" (intel smart sound technology).

Okay, it must be something new that Realtek is doing. Sorry but I don't have anything to offer except to disable the configuration popup and to select the defaults manually. If that doesn't work and the headset is known to work in other devices then you could contact tech support to see if they have any ideas.

Oh and I would go into the mic properties and confirm that the levels are adequate under the Levels tab, and uncheck the Exclusive Mode options under the Advanced tab.

I have exactly the same problem. I can not use Skype - there must be a solution to this.
