Windows Update vs Dell Update - Intel HD Graphics 530/630 Driver

Recently Windows updated my Intel HD Graphics 630 driver. A few days later the same driver was released on Dell's driver support page.

Is there any correlation between Windows Update and Dell's drivers? Who does update the drivers Microsoft themselves or Dell needs to release the driver to Microsoft?

As this is the first time when Windows updated the driver is this how the Intel HD Graphics drivers are to be kept up-to-date via Windows Update?

ZINGAM,

Referring to the Intel HD graphics driver.

Windows gets code from Intel for the driver and they will implement it in the OS. Dell also gets code from Intel and will release it. Also, Intel will post the driver on their site to download. You can uninstall the Microsoft driver if you choose and install the Dell update driver.

Jess L,

thank you for the explanation.

The interesting thing is that both drivers the one from Windows update and the one from Dell's website are version 22.20.16.4836 but Intel doesn't have this version on their website. Can I assume that the drivers are 100% identical?

I just wonder who is updating the drivers longer and more often - Windows or Dell.

ZINGAM,

I would think that they are the same drivers. Dell would be updating drivers more often that Microsoft does.
