Hi,

Welcome to the Community. If you were referring to creating a backup of your personal files using Dell Datasafe Local Backup, then you will need to save those files on to a DVD. Use the below links for help.

You must create your own data partition. The general procedure is:

1. Reduce the size of the system partition (C). This will leave unallocated space in the disk.

2. Create a new NTFS partition using this unallocated space.

This can be done safely using Windows Disk Manager. But this program can leave a too large system partition. A "good" size for a system partition with Windows 7 x64 is 100-120 GB. If Windows Disk Manager reports that the new system partition size will be greater than this, defrag the system partition using Windows, and try again.

If the size of the new system partition is still too large, you could use a third-party partition manager to reduce it further, for example a program from Paragon, or Partition Wizard.

Before using a third-party program, create a backup of the system partition in an external USB disk, or at least check that you have the restore optical disks ready to use if necessary.

Use Dell Datasafe 2.0 to backup everything onto a 16 gig or larger USB Flash Drive before trying to change any partitions.  You can then recover should anything go wrong by Booting from the USB Flash device and putting the factory image back.   If you do not do this you will be unable to do it ever again once you modify the partition table.  This backup can even recover from a totally dead hard drive by reimaging and formatting a new blank hard drive.
