Using function keys w/o having to use the Fn key

Is it possible to make that the standard? I was talking to Dell phone support recently & was amazed that the function keys were working W/O having to use the Fn key. Naturally it didn't last long.   How can I get that to be the normal procedure? Having to use the Fn key is truly ridiculous since the function keys aren't dual use.

Thanks!

Am using a Dell Inspiron 17 5000 series laptop.

Hi,

Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.

You will be able to change the function key behavior from the BIOS or from the Windows Mobility centre. Please follow the steps below and let me know the status:

1. Via BIOS:

  •  Restart your Windows computer and when it starts booting, press the F2 key to enter the BIOS settings.
  • Press the Advanced tab and double-click on Function key behavior. Change the setting from Multimedia key to Function key.

2. Via Windows Mobility Centre:

To open the Windows Mobility Center, press WinKey+X to open the WinX Menu and select Mobility Center. Alternatively, ope Run box, type mblctr and hit Enter. You can also access it via Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Windows Mobility Center > Adjust commonly used mobility settings.
