USB and Card Reader will no long recognize devices

Today my USB and Card Reader quit recognizing devices.  The card reader won't even show that there's anything in the port, the USB ports (all three of them) show that there is something plugged in but say that there was a malfunction with the device and it can't access it.  I've tried plugging in a printer and my iPhone, both of which have worked previously in the past week.  I've tried multiple SD cards in my card reader.

I'm guessing I just need to update my driver software or something but I can't find an answer when searching.  Any ideas?
