Unrecognized battery and AC adapter

I receive a message "battery unrecognized" when I powered on my Studio 1537. This is a common problem with multiple laptops and Dell doesn't seem to want to fix it. I called the support line, spoke with 4 people who could not help. They stated they would call back in 1-2 hours and they did not. I tried to update BIOS and it can not be updated with the battery not charging. I've been told that there may be a problem with the connection or the mother board or the BIOS, or the battery connection, but nobody can say for sure. Dell wants $300 to run diagnostics (but this does not include service or repairs!) Crazy!

I have owned multiple Dells, but I must say with the poor service I have received and this problem that no one wants to help reslove, this will be my last Dell. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this battery/AC problem or update BIOS with no battery power?

1.check the power cord that connects directly to the laptop.Instead of the usual two-wire system(plus/minus) Dell uses a third wire called the control/identification wire.If this wire is broken the laptop refuses to charge the battery.

2.It is possible that the power jack is broken or loose

3.If the power adapter and the power jack are ok it's highly likely the mainboard that needs to be replaced

4.Test a new power adapter first before replacing anything else.....

This is not an answer just the same issue.

Last year I had the same issue so they shipped me a new battery, fixed problem for 3 days, problem came back.  But also the PC warranty expired during that time.  So no help from Dell.  So my son used it plugged in all the time but now needs to take it to school.  I looked online to see how much Dell would charge for a new battery $135.99, that is ridiculous it is half of the price of the PC.  Then I noticed this line on Dell's web page "This product comes with 1 year limited warranty.".  Maybe since it had not been a year yet, I could get a new battery from Dell, son happy, school work still good.  So I called Dell, 1st technician, no battery does not have a 1 year warranty, but we can sell you one today.  I explained that the web site says the battery has a 1 year warranty, he stated no it does not say that.

Dell's standard battery warranty is one year. Batteries are a consumable item. All batteries degrade with time and use. The warranty is very similar to common auto warranties which exclude consumable items such as tires. So he transferred me to a hardware parts technician, same run around.  But if I purchase one today it would have a 1 year warranty.  I explained to him, if I go to Walmart and buy a battery for my car and put it into my 69 Camaro which has no warranty and if the battery goes bad, Walmart would replace the battery.  He said no because the car warranty had expired. What?????

So I said my warranty expired on 06/09/11, the battery was replaced on 5/25/11, if the battery died on 6/10/11 (it was close 2 days later) Dell would not replace it.  He said correct because the PC warranty had expired.  But then I said if I bought a extra battery on 5/25/11 and it went bad on 06/10/11, would Dell replace it?  He said yes, because it would be under the 1 year battery warranty.   What is wrong with this picture...

So if Dell replaces a part under your warranty that the part itself carries a warranty and your PC warranty expires, oh well the warranty for the part expires as well.  That is the biggest BS I have ever heard.  If you have a part replaced on your car and the car warranty expires the part still has a warranty if it goes bad.

Well I was just about ready to buy a couple of more PC's for my family and have always bought Dell.  I have even talked my friends, brothers and Mother into buying Dell because of theri  service and product.  This little incident has changed my mind and I will start looking elsewhere for my PC's.  I will also recommend this to my company who is looking at upgrading all their Dells and any0one else I know.
