SSD 128GB to 256GB

Hello,  I have now a Dell XPS with a mother board 8w1y3, which SSD is  128GB.

I had  before a  HP Spectre which  SSd is 256GB (3.3V , 1.5A).

Both SSD are Samsung and have the same kind of port.

Question:  can i put my old  256GB  SSD into my new laptoo-motherboard 8w1y3?

So  I guess the same  would have to be done with all my programs?

I had a whole bunch of softwares there, and just thinking to reinstall them...

But actually my question is if you guys think  these SSD's would be compatible..?

Subject to reloading the OS, yes.  You can't transfer the OS from the HP to the Dell intact though - you will need to do a complete reinstall.

SSD hardware is universal -- that's no problem.

The OEM version of Windows from an HP cannot be transferred to a Dell -- it won't activate and MS won't allow it.  Beyond that, the hardware differences between the systems will likley result in the need to reinstall everything anyway.

ok, so let me see  whether I understood.

  • Windows won't work,  so I will need  to reinstall it due to  hardware  differences.
  • I will need  to resintall  every software  I had in my  old  laptop.  I won't just "work" like nothing  had happend.

Never the  less...  SSD's are still compatible? I can still put  that 256GB SSD  in my  new laptop,  despite the  differences in the amperes?
