Smart Card

Hi

I have a Dell D600 which has the Smart Card reader.
If I wanted to where would I get a smartcard to put in it and what would I do with it?

Cheers

Ron

Smartcards are alternative forms of user authentication. A company with a super secure network may decide to issue smartcards instead of usernames and passwords.

You could probably set yourself up with an entire smartcard package for 1 user for under $100

http://www.smartcard.co.uk - is one site of many on smart cards

Dell currently sell the Otanium Pro and PKI suites with Latitudes  (part numbers: http://www.360degreeweb.com/sales/sales_dell.html, product info also available at this site) - basically, you get user authentication and certificate storage on the card.  I haven't used it, but it looks like it integrates nicely with XP.

Anyone out here in the forum have any actual experience with using smart cards?

I have been using the OtaniumSuite PKI. It is a great software. I ordered mine at http://sales.360degreeweb.com
You can get the software at Dell or Axalto.
