Sigmatel C-Major audio driver

I hope this is the right place to be posting this..

This morning, I booted up my laptop and walked away while waiting for it to load. When I came back, I saw that it had launched a repair. An error report read that there wasa problem caused by "Sigmatel C-Major audio driver." The exact message read:

This problem was caused by Sigmatel C-Major audio driver, which was created by Integrated Device Technology, Inc. and is distributed by your computer manufacturer.
To solve this problem, go online to your computer manufacturer's website and search for
Sigmatel C-Major audio driver updates.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, could someone please provide me with a link to which update I'm supposed to download? I searched and happened upon two, of which I'm not sure which to download, as well as a topic in the forums, where the author said that their audio had stopped working altogether following installation (my audio works just fine right now).

And, incase anyone needs to know, I'm working off a 64-bit Dell Studio 1535.

Thanks in advance.

Anyway, I started getting that fixit ticket when I boot up too...That is why I am here. I thought it would take me to the driver downloads......

I have sound so I don't know what that driver will do... if I ever find it........

Welcome to the forums

Where did you look for the drivers?

It couldn't have been the official Studio 1535 'Drivers & Downloads' page on the Dell website, because there's only one audio driver available for Vista 64bit - namely this one (which is less than two weeks old)

That's assuming it is Vista 64bit you're referring to of course, and not XP 64bit?

BTW:  You have posted in the right section :emotion-5:

Yes, I am having the same problem with the same exact message.

I have contacted Dell and a tech went on and said they fixed my problem but low and behold it is still there!!!  Then I was told to fix it totally I would have to pay 239.00 for an extended warrenty........Hello, this laptop is only 2 months old!!!!!!!!!!!

I am VERY dissatisfied with this dell laptop we bought just 2 months ago!!!!!!!!!!  I will not reccommend it to anyone nor will I ever trust DELLs tech support to know what they are doing!

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PROBLEM!

ok i created an accnt jus to tell you guys how easy this is...when you go to dell.com, search

Sigmatel C-Major audio driver

you should get a list of links, click on the downloads link, it will take you to a page that shows a link that says "choose a model" click on that...

choose ur model, after that just search all driver downloads, expand the audio list ur driver should be in there, download it....done, restart ur comp and ur good to go

Mine is also crashing fairly often.  I have the correct driver version installed according to the Dell Drivers and Downloads page

I am on a Dell XPS M1530 Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

So if I go to Dell.com and search for  "Sigmatel C-Major audio driver"  I just get the driver that I already have installed.  And that is the one that is crashing.

Does anyone have any other ideas.  I considered uninstalling it and just letting Windows find a driver for it.  I read in another forum that that seems to work ok, if not better.

Ok, so I uninstalled the Sigmatel driver and just let windows find a driver when I restarted.  It worked.  It found a driver and I had sound.  But unfortunately, one of my two output jacks didn't work.  So I reinstalled the Sigmatel driver from Dell Drivers and Downloads.

The version it gave me is 6.10.0.5866, A03.  But I have seen talk of newer A06 versions.  Does anyone know how to find that and can anyone verify that the ver A06 works for a XPS M1530 running 64 bit Vista?

Thanks!

Does anyone know how to find that and can anyone verify that the ver A06 works for a XPS M1530 running 64 bit Vista?

How to find A06?  Google :emotion-55:

It found me these drivers.

But you shouldn't just work off Axx numbers.

Despite those being A06 - against Dell's A03.. the version number of the A06 drivers, is older than the A03 drivers offered by Dell.

The A06 drivers are v6.10.0.5515.  Dell's A03 drivers are v6.10.0.5866!

And those A06 are dated 2007.  What date dare Dell's A03 drivers?

Will they work?   Download/install them to find out :emotion-55:

Although it's only recommended you use drivers provided by Dell themselves, there's no reason why they wouldn't work?

If they don't though, you can just reinstall A03 again.

That's assuming you don't get an advisory that the drivers you're about to install (A06), are older than the ones currently installed (A03) - based on what I've said above?

Hmm... that didn't work.

I downloaded and installed the A06 driver.  My computer accepted it and asked ot restart the computer.  I let it, and when it started back up, I had no sound.... just a red x over the sound icon in the system tray.  nothing.

So I rolled back the driver but unfortunately it rolled back to the default windows audio driver which doesn't include support for the two headphone jacks.  So I am reinstalling the A03 driver.

On a related note. I have been having a problem where my Vista 64 machine hangs on shutdown.  Basically at shutdown it goes through all the steps, shuts down services, but when it gets to the "Shutting Down" screen the progress circle stops and the computer hangs.  The only way to get it to shutdown from there is to do a hard shut down by holding in the power button.

After testing numerous programs, I have narrowed it down to the sstray64.exe (which is the system tray app for this sigmatel driver) as the culprit.  I am about 75% sure it  is causing it to hang.  Has anyone else noticed this?

thanks for the tip.

It does sound like a similar problem, but I am concerned about deleting registry keys without fully understanding what I am deleting and why.

Can anyone offer advice on this?

Thanks!

I have a problem that is related to the Sigmatel C-Major audio driver. I bought a computer from a friend ( its 4 months old when I bought it) and after transfering files and setting up the computer, I started to have the computer monitor turn off and the computer went on some wierd stand by mode which I could not return my computer off of and had to unplud it from the wall. This occured at least 50 times or so at varrious times. Recently, an error message showed up saying

This problem was caused by Sigmatel C-Major audio driver, which was created by Integrated Device Technology, Inc. and is distributed by your computer manufacturer.
To solve this problem, go online to your computer manufacturer's website and search for
Sigmatel C-Major audio driver updates.

I cannot figure out if these problems are related. I need help!

Thanks, Maddog

Maddog,

If it is a XPS/Dimension 430 computer then your downloads page is here. The Sigmatel audio driver is in the Audio category and the update is marked "urgent" meaning that it is a good idea to update if you have an older driver.

If you have other questions I suggest you post them on the Desktop Audio Board. (This is the Laptop Audio Board.)

thanks, fireblade; can you please help with this next step?  i appreciated using your direct link, and downloaded the "delldriverdownloadmanager" that came up; but now, to extract the file R214419.exe  it says i need to be an administrator------------will not let me extract.  i truly spent days researching how to "become the administrator" for rights, as i am the only one using this computer!  but it became a sea of open documents that i tried and could not finally get myself as the administrator.  please help with this step and the next, which i assume would be another step for the audio driver upgrade.

thanks so much.

You either need to log in under an administrator.  Or did you try to right-click the .exe and select "run as administrator?"

I have the same problem it says exactly what yours says it has happened a couple of times and then gone away!  But today it said it again and I did a computer scan with Windows Defender and it had 1 update and I installed it and it went away and said everything is up to date.  I dont know what to tell you but I would try what I did and hopefully it will go away for you too.  My sound works great!!! I am using the exact same laptop as you are!
