Screen is cracked on my laptop, I want to connect to my TV as external monitor. Please help!

Ok, I have a Dell Inspiron 15 (3521) for about 2 1/2 years but the screen is cracked, so I wanna connect it to my Sylvania LC190SS2 LCD TV to use as an external monitor, but I'm not sure how. The TV manual says I need a VGA cable but my PC doesn't have a VGA port...... please help, I'm confused. What kind of cable do I need? I believe my laptop has an HDMI port, but I'm not too familiar with these things. Please help!

Much thank would be appreciated

Hello,

I believe that your system should have come with an HDMI port.  According to the tech specs I found for that TV system it looks like it also has an HDMI port.  So you should be able to connect the two using an HDMI cable, which is available in almost every store that sells electronic equipment.

Remember, that the TV will not have the same resolution rate capabilities that a monitor will have so the icons, etc may be fuzzy.

Let me know if this information helped.

Don't forget to change the input selection on the tv to the correct HDMI port. Same as when you connect a dvd player or another device. TVs are not like monitors so need to be manually set to show the correct input. Don't get ripped off with buying the cable. HDMI cables are available for $5 or so from Amazon. Some stores might try and sell you $35+ cables you don't need.

IMO it is really not worth the trouble to try to use the tv as a monitor. Try connecting a real monitor to test if the computer display is actually working. It might be more than just a cracked screen.
