Screen goes dark

When i turn on my inspiron e1505 or turn on from hibernate mode or standby, the screen lights up as usual just for a short moment then goes dark.

After a number of times of opening and closing the lid or putting it in stanby i get the backlight to stay on. So it must be that the light is not dead and its not inverter bec. afterall id does work SOMETIMES.

this happened suddenly there was no changes to my computer.

Can neone help me?

Thanx for responding

But how does that make sense if when i finally get it on it stays on. For instance  its been on practically  all day today so far without a problem. It sounds like some sort of process or driver thats not working  properly  since it only occurs  by a startup of some sort ( from hibernate, standby). I dont know doesnt it work that way?

Sounds like a dying or dead backlight.  You have to get the LCD panel replaced (or do very delicate surgery to replace the backlight alone).

The only way to check it out, if you are not convinced that it is the backlight, is to use an external monitor and see if the same behavior appears on that also.

I had the same problem with an old Compaq Presario.  The screen would be off during boot and longer.  Only after  jogging the screen around a bit, would it come back on.  I took the display apart and located a loose display cable that caused the intermittent problem(connector was cracked so I did some creative splicing).

Follow the instructions in the "Display Assembly" section of your service manual to disassemble the display and inspect your cables.  Hope this helps.

BTW, as posted earlier, if available, be sure to plug your notebook into an external display first to see if the problem persists. If so, it is likely not a display problem.

thanks everyone for the help.

i plugged it in to an external it worked fine.

when i listened closely to my computer when the light goes on briefly i hear the soumd of a florescent bulb flickering so it sounds like your right and the bulb is dying.

I ordered a new one and ill see what happens when i replace it.
