repeated keypresses on Latitude e7450
I am experiencing this issue:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/567269/fast-pressed-key-triggers-auto-repeat-ubuntu-14-04-lts
(repeated keypresses) with my new Latitude e7450 under Ubuntu. So it seems that there has to be BIOS update to fix it. Now I am wondering:
1. which BIOS update will fix this issue?
2. how do I install a BIOS update without having Windows installed?
And of course I am secretly wondering:
3. is every DELL Laptop shipped with the same issue that is only fixed in a later BIOS update?

I still don't know the answer to 1. or 3. but the best answer to 2. seems to be: get a USB-stick running FreeDOS, for example using an image from here:
http://www.chtaube.eu/computers/freedos/bootable-usb/
Copy the Bios-Update exe files onto it, boot from the stick, execute the update.
I did that with version A04 so if I don't report back here, the issue might be fixed by that version.

FYI, you can launch a BIOS flashing utility by hitting F12 key just after the power-on and then selecting an appropriate menu item. It works on my Latitude 3340

Hi,
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
The A04 BIOS version, released 21 May 2015 fixes the multiple characters displayed from a single keystroke when typing in Linux OS.
Below is the link for the BIOS:

hi,
I am having similar issues with latitude 5250 which is about a month old. Dell support recommended reinstalling ubuntu 14.04 but things havent changed after the reinstall.
is there any update for this system as well?

This is not OS / driivers related issue. Most likely it is caused by the defective keyboard hardware and / or BIOS. It seems that a whole family of the Latitude laptops are affected by this (SHAME ON YOU, DELL!!).
The only way to mitigate it (until Dell someday releases fixed BIIOS) is to use some kind of utility to filter out double keypresses.
For example, Windows 8.1 provides an ability tu setup keypress filtering with a help of the 'Accessibility options' (my Dell 3340 keyboard is affected too and I use mentioned keyboard filters). Probably yours Ubuntu do have similar functionality.

This is not just a problem with Linux - I experienced this problem with Win7 Ent x64 SP1 with BIOS A02 on my E7450. BIOS A04 also appears to fix this for Windows 7 users too.

This issue is still persisting! The customer care in India told me that they have referred the issue to the tech team and still waiting their response. don’t know when they will resolve it. till then, keep a watch on the most damaging of the key presses- backspace key. its been two months!

there seems to be no BIOS update for Linux or ubuntu 14.04. That is the problem. Dell does not seem to think its important to provide a BIOS update for linux though they sell computers installed with ubuntu......................................
just for information- the series of dots were made by the repeated key press bug. took me two seconds to notice the train of dots.

greenjai: have you checked the BIOS version of your laptop and tried to update it?
This is a good place to start: www.dell.com/.../EN

greenjai: check switzel's post above. The simplest solution for Linux users appears to be to boot from a FreeDOS USB stick which you have copied the BIOS update executable on to. This solution is also listed on the Ubuntu wiki: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DellBIOS
Google is your friend when searching for these kind of solutions. I used the search terms: Dell BIOS update Linux - maybe try this sort of thing before posting here is future?

hi
I am aware of this method to install BIOS. But, the problem seemed specific to linux and there was atleast one example where the linux repeated key presses were addressed in a bios update.
can try the latest bios but what is possibility that it will solve the problem? Dell guys have admitted the issue and said my ticket has been put as pending.
will try the latest bios and see if the problem dissapears.
also request you to see my other post : en.community.dell.com/.../20767119

Does anybody have this issue on a Windows machine?
We have a user that has this issue happening to her, it seems to have happened just randomly.
The letter 'O' gets repeated, like this: "ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...".
She'll turn her machine off and restart it and at times it's still happening again.
Intermittent issue
Bios version A 03 (which is odd, I could have sworn I got her upgraded months ago....)
